Intro

To those who eagerly desire to know the terms of following Jesus, they will clasp onto every truth with their life even when these very precious rays of light seem to cut their own hearts.  To those who would rather die for Jesus than to live for this world, they will take in this light and life of truth. Though it kills them in exposing their sin, yet they will hold on to it in faith until it makes them alive and causes them to raise up, themselves now, even saturated in truth.

In Bondage to Sin

The Progression of Sin to Death

Jas 1:14-15 WEB  But each one is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.  15  Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin; and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death.

Remember: To “save a soul from death,” turn them away from sin: Jas_5:20; 2Sa_12:13

It’s Not Good to be a Sinner

Isa 13:9 KJ2000  Behold, the day of the LORD comes, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy its sinners out of it.

Sin Confrontation: An Unspeakable Blessing

Act 3:26 WEB  God, having raised up his servant, Jesus, sent him to you first, to bless you, in turning away everyone of you from your wickedness."

Jesus was Born for this

Mat_1:21

David’s Story

2Sa_11:1-27, 2Sa_12:1-14; Psa 51:1-19; In the end, David was thankful: 1Ch_3:5

Jonah’s Story

“Sodom Principal” – God does not always warn sinners about coming wrath, and He is still justified when He doesn’t: Gen_18:16-22; Gen_19:12-14; Gen_19:27-29 (also Rom_1:18-32 below); Mat_11:23-24

That God would ever warn us to turn us away from sin is truly “An Unspeakable Blessing” because He could just wipe us out and He would still be justified. Jonah understood this when it came to his enemies.

Jonah in his rebellion understood more about the warning of God’s wrath than 10,000 preachers do today who call it “Judgmental” and “Legalistic”:

Jon_1:2-3; Jon_3:2; Jon_3:10; Jon_4:1-2

Johan basically said, “What?! You want me to warn them? Are You kidding? I don’t want You to have mercy on them!”

Getting Real Salvation Means First Facing Sin

Rom_1:15-17 - has to do with “salvation”

Rom_1:18-32

(Especially: Rom_1:29-32)

Because You Can’t Continue to Sin and Go to Heaven:

1Jn_2:4 He who says, "I have come to know him," but does not keep His commands is a liar, and the Truth is not in him.

1Jn_3:6-10 Whoever remains in Him does not continue to sin. Whoever continues to sin has not seen Him, or known Him. 7 Little children, don't let anyone deceive you: he that does what is right is righteous, just as He is righteous. 8 He that continues to sin is of the devil; because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. For this reason the Son of God was revealed, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whoever is born of God does not continue to sin; for His seed remains in him: and he cannot go on sinning, because he is born of God. 10 In this the children of God and the children of the devil are revealed: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God…

Sin Lists

These are very specific sin lists by which you can know for sure that you are going to hell if you are found practicing them.

Remember to read Rom_1:15-17 (as referenced above)

1Co_6:9-10 Jos.Trans. ...don't you know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate,G3120 nor homosexuals,G733  10  Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor criticizers,G3060 nor forceful takers,G727 will inherit the kingdom of God.

[Also see:  1Co_5:9-13]

1Ti_1:8-11 KJB  But we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully; 9  Knowing this: that the law is not laid down for a righteous person but for the lawless and unsubmitted,G506 for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathersG3964 and murderers of mothersG3389; for murderers of men;* 10  For fornicators, homosexuals,G733 for slave traders,G405 for liars, for oath breakers, and if there is anything else that is contrary to sound doctrine; 11  According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

* Being considered "murderers," before God is not limited to a physical act:

Mat_5:21-22; 1Jn_3:15

** "unsubmitted...fathers...mothers..." see:

 Exo_21:15; Lev_20:9; Deu_27:16; Pro_20:20; Pro_28:24, Pro_30:11, Pro_30:17

Gal_5:19-21 KJ2000  Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, impurity, licentiousness,  20  Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, strife, jealousy, wrath, selfishness, divisions, heresies,  21  Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of which I tell you beforehand, as I have also told you in time past, that they who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Eph_5:5-7 KJ2000  For this you know, that no fornicator, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.  6  Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things comes the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.  7  Be not therefore partakers with them.

1Th 4:2-9 KJB  Because you know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus,  3  because this is the will of God, your holiness, that you should abstain from fornication:  4  That every one of you know how to possess his own vessel in holiness and honor;  5  Not in the passion of lust just as, also, the nations [non-Jews] who don’t know God:  6  That no one go beyond [i.e. the limits] and steal from [or overreach or defraud] his brother in this matter: because on account of this the Lord is the avenger concerning all these things, as we have also forewarned you and fully testified.  7  Because God has not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.  8  So consequently, the one who despises does not despise man, but God, who has also given unto us His Holy Spirit.  9  But concerning brotherly love…

Col 3:5-9 KJV  Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:  6  For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:  7  In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.  8  But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.  9  Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

Rev_21:8; KJV  But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death…

Rev_21:27 KJV  And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

Rev_22:14-15 KJ2000  Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.  15  For outside are dogs, and sorcerers, and fornicators, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loves and makes a lie.

So…

Heb_12:14 KJV  Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

Free!

Repent

Jas_4:7-10

Pro 28:13 Complete Apostles' Bible  13  He that covers his own ungodliness shall not prosper, but he that blames himself shall be loved.

Get Free: Die to Self

Rom_6:2 WEB  ...We who died to sin, how could we live in it any longer?

Rom_6:7 WEB  For he who has died has been freed from sin.

1Pe_4:1-5 WEB  Forasmuch then as Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin;  2  that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.  3  For we have spent enough of our past time living in doing the desire of the Gentiles, and to have walked in lewdness, lusts, drunken binges, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries.  4  They think it is strange that you don't run with them into the same excess of riot, blaspheming:  5  who will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

Other Encouraging Passages

Gal_2:20, Gal_5:24; Col_3:3-6

Isa_1:16; Heb_4:10

Greek and Background Details

1Co_6:9-10

“Effeminate”

G3120: μαλακοι ("malakoi"), literally meaning "soft," but functionally meaning, a passive participant in homosexual activity, especially when used alongside the primary word for homosexual, ἀρσενοκοίτης ("arsenokoítēs"), as in 1Co_6:10.

“Homosexuals”

G733: ἀρσενοκοίτης ("arsenokoítēs"), the Greek word for "Homosexual" is used in 1Co_6:9, 1Ti_1:10, and is described in Rom_1:27 in the Greek New Testament.

But with Rom_1:27 some homosexual activists have sought to exploit common ignorance of most people by insisting that this verse is in reference to child-rape, which was common enough practice in Rome at that time, especially for Roman Soldiers. I have sat across the desk from dishonest pastors who claimed this very thing.

Contextually it is clear that this is not the case, because the forbidden homosexual practice in Romans one is not in contrast with "consenting" homosexual practices, but with marriage itself, showing that the homosexual practice itself is altogether condemned.

Furthermore, having personally read church history concerning this gross practice with boys, it is very clear that Romans one is making no reference to such a practice, since they do not use the Greek word for “boys,” but instead say “men with men” (and not “men with boys”).

This Greek word for homosexual (ἀρσενοκοίτης) is in reference to the terminology used in the Greek Old Testament in Lev_18:22, where one can see the root words (“man” and “bed”) for this Greek word in the prohibition of homosexuality:

"...μετ ρσενος ο κοιμηθσ κοτην γυναικς..." (Lev_18:22 LXX)

“Criticizers”

G3060: "λοίδορος" (loídoros) or slanderers, or revilers

“Forceful Takers”

G727: "ἁρπαξ" (hárpax) or swindlers, or "extortioners" (KJV)

1Ti_1:8-11

G506: "unsubmitted" or disobedient

G3964/G3389: May also mean "strikers of" "fathers and...mothers" and is comparable to Exo_21:15

G405: "ἀνδραποδισταῖς" (andrapodistais) an enslaver: Based on "andrápodon" (unjustly forced into slavery) rather than "doúlos" (one who gives them self to servitude because of need as an "indentured servant").

Future Additions

Consider this intro…

Many today are lying to people claiming that the Bible does not give us lists of “Dos and Don'ts,” especially in the New Testament. But these are the lawless lies of our age.  We don’t have to wonder if we are going to Hell for the things we are doing. We can know what activities the Bible has marked out as sin that will condemn us forever so that we can avoid them, and call others to repentance. When written on our heart, with these very practical lists of life-giving rules and laws, we can wage a good warfare in tearing down the false lawless counterfeit gospel of our age, and effectively call people, especially the church, to repent of the things that are condemning them to Hell.

Promising freedom… bond servants of corruption

- Beware of those who promise “freedom, no worries, and the care free life” at the expense of righteousness! (compare Oprah Wimfry)

- Many will claim how free they are from everything

- Boasting about how free you are does not make you free. Not sinning makes you truly free.

Example: “I don’t care what anyone thinks” – really? Then why did you tell us that? In fact, you dress that way to be noticed because you do care!

- It is not those who think that they are free who are free, but those who obey:

“we are Abraham’s children!”

But it is “the doers of the law who are justified”

Show that it is written on heart

Righteous requirement of the law might be FULLY met in us…

Let us cast their cords from us… (ps 2)

- see how they view righteousness?

So what is the freedom they have?

“When you were slaves of sin you were free from righteousness…”

In fact, lawlessness is the anti-christ
