1Ti_5:22 WEB Lay hands hastily on no one, neither be a participant in other men's sins. Keep yourself pure.
Dan_1:8 -
"Daniel purposed...not [to] defile himself"...so how should we handle others? (Compare 1Ti_5:22 above).
Eph_5:11 WEB
Have no fellowship with the
unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even reprove them.
- How can you "reprove them" if you are knowingly
helping them happen?
More on "don't participate in other’s sins": 2Jo_1:11; Rev_18:4
Isa_41:6-7 - Don't help with Idolatry
Jer_23:14 KJV …they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.
Eze_13:22-23 WEB Because
with lies you have… strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not
return from his wicked way, and be saved alive:
Could this isolate you from society, your church, or even your own
family? In light of all this, it is easy to see why Jesus said these things:
Mat_10:16-23 KJ2000 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of
wolves: be therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. 17 But
beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will
scourge you in their synagogues;
18 And
you shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony
against them and the Gentiles… 22 And you shall be hated of all men for my
name's sake… 23 But
when they persecute you in this city, flee into another… 34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not
to send peace, but a sword.
35 For I am come to set a man at variance against
his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law
against her mother-in-law.
36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own
household. 37 He that loves father or mother more than me is
not worthy of me: and he that loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy
of me. 38 And he that takes not his cross, and follows
after me, is not worthy of me.
39 He that finds his life shall lose it: and he
that loses his life for my sake shall find it.
Considerations
- Why should we “beware of men” if they are no challenge to our
own pursuit of God?
- Why does Jesus’ expectation anticipate that A LOT of people are
going to be offended at those who follow Him?
- Where is our persecution?
- Are we “going with the flow” to some degree to keep a “peace,”
that Jesus did not come to bring?
Luk 6:22 KJ2000 Blessed are you, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
- How does this happen if we are agreeable to most men’s ways?
1Co_10:24-33 – Food Sacrificed to Idols
This entire principal of not helping sin is powerfully displayed
in avoiding food sacrificed to idols... can you imagine saying, “No, I cannot
eat your food that you prepared for me because you told me it would help you participate
in your sin of idolatry.”?
This shows the principal
of “awareness” as being the basis of your liability for going along with and
helping in other people’s sins.
Isa_26:8 b - 'your name & renown,
are the desire of our soul'... So how can I possibly help promote anything to
the contrary?
If we can relate to not promoting propaganda for Hitler if we were
in Nazi Germany, why is it we cannot relate to not promoting material that
dishonors God? Why is it that our heart would naturally
cringe away from things that would promote the death of other human beings, but
we can’t relate to naturally detesting the idea of helping pass out
things that dishonor God? Is His name and renown the
desire of our soul?
If someone were promoting literature falsely defaming your own
mother, you would not even think of helping one step of the way. If someone
asked, “Could you hand me that ‘Anti-mom’ flyer there?” You would resolutely
say “No!” Is it right that we give more honor to our
mothers than to God? It is true that our mothers bore us, but God created us.
Yes they are our authority, but God is our Lord and King:
Act 5:29 KJV …We ought to obey God rather than men.
Compare:
Rom_14:22 - 'blessed is he who does not condemn himself by what he approves'
-from Judging the
Church-
2Jn_1:7-11 WEB For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who
don't confess that Jesus Christ came in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the
Antichrist. 8 Watch yourselves, that we don't lose
the things which we have accomplished, but that we receive a full reward. 9
Whoever transgresses and doesn't remain in the teachingG1322 of Christ, doesn't have God. He who remains
in the teachingG1322, the same has both the Father and the
Son. 10 If
anyone comes to you, and doesn't bring this teachingG1322, don't receive him into your house, and
don't welcomeG5463 him, 11 for he who welcomesG5463 him participates in his evil works.
Greek
G1322 - “διδαχή”
(didachē): Teaching
or Doctrine
G5463 – “χαίρω” (chairō) directly means to favor/ “rejoice”, because in the Biblical mindset, “favoring” is rejoicing. In 2Jn_1:10-11 the word is used twice in the Present Tense and Active Voice [“χαιρειν” (chairein)] – which means that a real Christian is forbidden to wish such a heretic to be favor-rejoicing, which was a common practice of wishing someone well and displaying kindness as a greeting, and this is forbidden for real disciples to wish upon the defiled favor-rejoicing of heretics, because it is overtly evil in promoting sin.
