Explanation

This resource is a simple compilation, and a running list of personal notes that I have collected of the most critical quotes that Martin Luther said and wrote. I have put this together as a counterpart and companion resource for other works that briefly mention the corruption of Luther, especially the primary, concise article that I wrote on him.

This tool is especially intended as a reference, so that the reader may see a brief representative list of Martin Luther’s wicked sayings and verify for themselves the original basis of why I teach that we ought to oppose the legacy of such wicked men, and the religion that we as a whole have accepted from them, that characteristically defines the modern church to this day.

So often, in reading quotes from Luther one can see the origin of so many problems, corruptions, false doctrines, ideas, beliefs, and sinful practices that are characteristic of the scandals of Protestantism as a whole.

With this tool you do not have to just take my word for it when reading the things I have written against Luther. You can read some of his quotes yourself. Perhaps through this, some may see the obvious corruption of what has been handed down to them and the modern church, and perhaps some may repent from the pollutions of Protestantism and the wickedness of unsaved “christianity” as a whole.

Some brief notes about this work:

·        This work is by no means exhaustive or complete.

·        I have added emphasis throughout this work so that the reader may quickly skim and see the corruption throughout Luther’s words.

·        I have intentionally left out Luther’s many sexual jokes and obscene insults, since I think they are so defiling that they are inappropriate for me to willfully reproduce for others to read.

·        I need your help! I have not double-checked the quotes offered by others presented on this page, (see Footnote) but have simply compiled them here for whatever benefit they may be. If anyone can help me improve this webpage by verifying/ correcting or adding things to it, that would be greatly appreciated!

·        If you have any other quotes that you think that I should add, or if you see anything at all wrong in this work, PLEASE contact me and let me know your thoughts.

Luther’s Intro (from Part I)

I had made up my mind to write no more either about the Jews or against them. But since I learned that those miserable and accursed people do not cease to lure to themselves even us, that is, the Christians, I have published this little book, so that I might be found among those who opposed such poisonous activities of the Jews and who warned the Christians to be on their guard against them. I would not have believed that a Christian could be duped by the Jews into taking their exile and wretchedness upon himself. However, the devil is the god of the world, and wherever God's word is absent he has an easy task, not only with the weak but also with the strong. May God help us. Amen.

Luther’s Advice (from Part XI)

...we dare not tolerate their conduct, now that we are aware of their lying and reviling and blaspheming.

...I shall give you my sincere advice:

First, to set fire to their synagogues or schools and to bury and cover with dirt whatever will not burn, so that no man will ever again see a stone or cinder of them. This is to be done in honor of our Lord and of Christendom, so that God might see that we are Christians...

In Deuteronomy 13:12 Moses writes that any city that is given to idolatry shall be totally destroyed by fire, and nothing of it shall be preserved. If he were alive today, he would be the first to set fire to the synagogues and houses of the Jews...

Second, I advise that their houses also be razed and destroyed...

Third, I advise that all their prayer books and Talmudic writings, in which such idolatry, lies, cursing, and blasphemy are taught, be taken from them.

Fourth, I advise that their rabbis be forbidden to teach henceforth on pain of loss of life and limb...

Fifth, I advise that safe-conduct on the highways be abolished completely for the Jews...

Luther’s Advice (from Part XII)

Accordingly, it must and dare not be considered a trifling matter but a most serious one to seek counsel... to save our souls from the Jews, that is, from the devil and from eternal death. My advice, as I said earlier, is:

First, that their synagogues be burned down, and that all who are able toss in sulphur and pitch; it would be good if someone could also throw in some hellfire. That would demonstrate to God our serious resolve and be evidence to all the world that it was in ignorance that we tolerated such houses, in which the Jews have reviled God, our dear Creator and Father, and his Son most shamefully up till now, but that we have now given them their due reward.

Second, that all their books their prayer books, their Talmudic writings, also the entire Bible, be taken from them, not leaving them one leaf, and that these be preserved for those who may be converted. For they use all of these books to blaspheme the Son of God, that is, God the Father himself, Creator of heaven and earth, as was said above; and they will never use them differently.

Third, that they be forbidden on pain of death to praise God, to give thanks, to pray, and to teach publicly among us and in our country. They may do this in their own country or wherever they can without our being obliged to hear it or know it. The reason for this prohibition is that their praise, thanks, prayer, and doctrine are sheer blasphemy, cursing, and idolatry...

Fourth, that they be forbidden to utter the name of God within our hearing. For we cannot with a good conscience listen to this or tolerate it... Therefore we must not consider the mouth of the Jews as worthy of uttering the name of God within our hearing. He who hears this name-from a Jew must inform the authorities, or else throw sow dung at him when he sees him and chase him away. And may no one be merciful and kind in this regard, for God's honor and the salvation of us all, including that of the Jews, are at stake!

...But what will happen even if we do burn down the Jews' synagogues and forbid them publicly to praise God, to pray, to teach, to utter God's name? They will still keep doing it in secret. If we know that they are doing this in secret, it is the same as if they were doing it publicly. For our knowledge of their secret doings and our toleration of them implies that they are not secret after all, and thus our conscience is encumbered with it before God. So let us beware. In my opinion the problem must be resolved thus: If we wish to wash our hands of the Jews' blasphemy and not share in their guilt, we have to part company with them. They must be driven from our country...

...Undoubtedly they do more and viler things than those which we know and discover…

...but then eject them forever from this country. For, as we have heard, God's anger with them is so intense that gentle mercy will only tend to make them worse and worse, while sharp mercy will reform them but little. Therefore, in any case, away with them!

-Martin Luther (On the Jews and Their Lies)

In brief, dear princes and lords, those of you who have Jews under your rule-- if my counsel does not please your, find better advice, so that you and we all can be rid of the unbearable, devilish burden of the Jews, lest we become guilty sharers before God in the lies, blasphemy, the defamation, and the curses which the mad Jews indulge in so freely and wantonly against the person of our Lord Jesus Christ, this dear mother, all Christians, all authority, and ourselves. Do not grant them protection, safe-conduct, or communion with us. . . . With this faithful counsel and warning I wish to cleanse and exonerate my conscience.

-Martin Luther (On the Jews and Their Lies)

...that everyone would gladly be rid of them.

-Martin Luther (On the Jews and Their Lies)

If I had power over the Jews, as our princes and cities have, I would deal severely with their lying mouth.

-Martin Luther (On the Jews and Their Lies)

They [rulers] must act like a good physician who, when gangrene has set in proceeds without mercy to cut, saw, and burn flesh, veins, bone, and marrow. Such a procedure must also be followed in this instance. Burn down their synagogues, forbid all that I enumerated earlier, force them to work, and deal harshly with them, as Moses did...

If this does not help we must drive them out like mad dogs.

In quoting bishop Martin Sasse, a leading Protestant churchman wikipedia.org says,

Sasse applauded the burning of the synagogues and the coincidence of the day, writing in the introduction, ‘On November 10, 1938, on Luther's birthday, the synagogues are burning in Germany.’ The German people, he urged, ought to heed these words ‘of the greatest antisemite of his time, the warner of his people against the Jews.’”

"Be a sinner and sin boldly, but believe and rejoice in Christ even more boldly for he is victorious over sin, death, and the world. As long as we are here in this world we have to sin. This life is not a dwelling place of righteousness"

"No sin will separate us from the lamb, even though we commit fornication and murder a thousand times a day."

"Whenever the devil harasses you, seek the company of men or drink more, or joke and talk nonsense, or do some other merry thing. Sometimes we must drink more, sport, recreate ourselves, and even sin a little to spite the devil, so that we leave him no place for troubling our consciences with trifles. We are conquered if we try too conscientiously not to sin at all. So when the devil says to you: do not drink, answer him: I will drink, and right freely, just because you tell me not to."

"The imputation of righteousness we need very much, because we are far from perfect. As long as we have this body, sin will dwell in our flesh. Then, too, we sometimes drive away the holy spirit; we fall into sin, like Peter, David, and other holy men. Nevertheless we may always take recourse to this fact, that our sins are covered, and that God will not lay them to our charge. Sin is not held against us for Christ's sake."

"your sin cannot cast you into hell"

"No sin can harm me"

“Let us cease to fear the wrath and judgment of God on account of our sins”

(Luther as seen in Lang on Hos_3:1-5)

Footnotes

Obviously, I cannot recommend some of the websites that I reference here, since some of the places that I got quotes from are often just as evil as Luther, or else at least evil in some other way so that I cannot recommend their conclusions after they document some of the corruption of Luther. But in some ways, many out there have done some of the work already of collecting quotes, even if it was with the wrong motives, so that at the same time this affords a possible chance to help me to compile some of these things to play a part in calling the unsaved church to repent.

Abbreviated form of what I gathered:

After calling the Jews a, “miserable and accursed people,” in his work called, “On the Jews and Their Lies” (1543) Luther says in Part XI:

“...I shall give you my sincere advice:

First, to set fire to their synagogues or schools and to bury and cover with dirt whatever will not burn, so that no man will ever again see a stone or cinder of them. This is to be done in honor of our Lord and of Christendom, so that God might see that we are Christians...

Second, I advise that their houses also be razed and destroyed...”

Then, after equating the Jews with “the devil,” Luther says in Part XII:

“My advice, as I said earlier, is:

First, that their synagogues be burned down, and that all who are able toss in sulphur and pitch; it would be good if someone could also throw in some hellfire...

...Therefore we must not consider the mouth of the Jews as worthy of uttering the name of God within our hearing. He who hears this name from a Jew must inform the authorities, or else throw sow dung at him when he sees him and chase him away. And may no one be merciful and kind in this regard...

...But what will happen even if we do burn down the Jews' synagogues and forbid them publicly to praise God, to pray, to teach, to utter God's name? They will still keep doing it in secret... ...So let us beware... we have to part company with them. They must be driven from our country...”
